ESC program that provides cross-domain
searches honored 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs
An Electronic Systems Center program was recently recognized by the publication C4ISR Journal as part of its Big 25. Editors scan the industry and intelligence community for the technologies and organizations that they believe are "doing the most to defeat terrorists, inform policymakers and empower troops to make the right decisions on the battlefield.”
The Cross-Domain Enterprise All-source User Repository, or CENTAUR, program allows users to search, discover and retrieve releasable data across security and coalition domains.
“CENTAUR allows a user to discover data, similar to an internet search engine, like Google,” said Bob Stepan, Distributed Common Ground/Surface System cross-domain program manager. “It provides guards which check releasability markings and then allows data to be passed from machine to machine in near real-time.” (More) |

Intrusion Detection
System combines capabilities, enhances security By Patty Welsh 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs An Electronic Systems Center project to protect an essential Air Force platform has recently completed government acceptance testing and is moving toward certification in early December. The Robins Air Force Base, Ga., Intrusion Detection System incorporates various technologies into one complete system in order to provide additional protection for the Joint STARS aircraft located there. The system allows the users the ability to rapidly detect and neutralize intruders. “This enhances the 78th Security Forces ability to protect this critical asset,” said Capt. Jonathan Demers, program manager. SSgt Douglas Mikesch and SSgt Jarrod Kologinsky of the 78th SFS added, “The new system will greatly enhance the degree of security and quickened response times for incidents involving critical assets that have never before been possible at Robins AFB.” The E-8C Joint STARS is an airborne battle management command and control and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform based upon the Boeing 707-300 airframe. Its mission is to provide theater ground and air commanders with ground surveillance to support attack operations and targeting that contributes to the delay, disruption and destruction of enemy forces. Antenna could help speed comm, enhance
connectivity By Patty Welsh 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs Recent flight tests conducted by a combined team from the Electronic Systems Center, the Space and Missile Systems Center, MIT Lincoln Laboratory and MITRE Corp. have shown that the low-profile Advanced Multi-band Communications Antenna, installed on a wide-body aircraft, can effectively support high speed Ka-band and EHF communications. The tests demonstrated that the AMCAS meets needed performance characteristics, such as small size and weight, easy installation, consistent coverage in all directions and the ability to mount to the aircraft skin. The system will provide secure, long-range military satellite communications connectivity for future Air Force airborne platforms – providing voice, video and chat capabilities. (More) |

VCSAF: America is
an air and space nation By Mitch Gettle Air Force Public Affairs Agency 11/21/2011 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- The Air Force vice chief of staff discussed many topics concerning the current and future state of America's airpower at the Air Force Association's Global Warfare Symposium Nov. 18 in Los Angeles. Airpower has made the United States a global power, Gen. Phil Breedlove told an audience of approximately 300 AFA members, Airmen and industry officials attending the annual conference. "It has allowed us to achieve unprecedented connectivity, facilitating our nation's economic rise as well as our ability to influence events half a world away within hours," he said. Breedlove said America is an air and space nation and in almost every category the U.S. has been the global benchmark for air and space power. "The unique combination of speed and flexibility has made airpower the key to our strategic agility -- and in the future of smaller, less-deployed military forces, agility will be the name of the game," he said. Speed and flexibility, two tenants of airpower, provide the Air Force with the strategic, operational and tactical ability to rapidly move between theaters of operation, Breedlove said. For example, with on-going air operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Air Force was able to simultaneously provide support to the Japan earthquake humanitarian operations and provide combat air support to NATO over Libya.
