WASHINGTON -- The Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz signed a directive memorandum here recently granting the Air Force Network Operations commander centralized order-issue authority over the operation, defense, maintenance and control of Air Force networks.

As part of an ongoing service-wide cyber operations transformation, the Air Force will establish a centralized user directory and e-mail service known as ADX that will service all Air Force network users.

The changes will be relatively transparent to most network users, but this migration to centralized services will significantly improve security and efficiency on the Air Force Global Information Grid, officials said.

"Major commands and subordinate commanders will no longer 'own' networks, but will be responsible for their portion of the larger AF-GIG," General Schwartz stated in a mass e-mail to Airmen.

LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Tech. Sgt. Jennifer Strait, an electronics technician in the Special Projects directorate of the Cryptologic Systems Group at Lackland AFB in San Antonio earned the title “Distinguished Graduate” of her class during ceremonies last week at the Lackland AFB NCO Academy.

The Olympia, Wash., native began her military career in the Army National Guard in 1993. Her active duty stint with the Army lasted from 1996 until 1999. After a two-year hiatus, she joined the Air Force in 2001. Her first Air Force assignment sent her to the Brooks City Base in San Antonio.  In March 2006, she was stationed up the street at CPSG.

During the school weeks, Sergeant Strait, who has two daughters, Courtney, 13, and Kailen, 9, shared parenting duties so she could focus on the course.  Weekends, she said, “were still full of papers, study groups and speech writing, but we got away to the park a few times,” the sergeant said.

Strait said she “thoroughly enjoyed” the course and that she “learned a lot of new things.”  Not one to call attention to herself, Sergeant Strait didn’t hesitate to share the limelight. “I owe that (DG) to my instructor and classmates,” she said. “We had a really good group that wasn't afraid to disagree, and everyone was very professional.”  (More)

command comments ...

... In order to realize a vision, several things need to happen. First, you must align the vision with one of our core service functions. The closer to the core, the easier it will be to gain support and, eventually, resourcing. Next, take the vision and develop a strategy. Depending on your vision, the strategy may involve acquisition, implementation, execution, modification or one of many other aspects. Let your strategy start at the 40 percent solution and then let it evolve to 80 percent and eventually to 98 percent. Realize that the process is continual - you will never get to 100 percent.

With the strategy in place, you can start socializing the vision. Socialization will also help your vision progress and grow roots through increased organizational support and understanding. ...
