When it comes to delivering warfighter capabilities, 751st
Electronic Systems Group Commander Col. Jim Lovell said that it’s a
creed of keeping promises -- instilled in him by his former
commander-now turned Air Force chief of staff -- that he will use as
a guide in leading the group.
“Gen. [Norton] Schwartz used to always say, ‘a promise made is a
promise kept’ and that really impacted the way I thought about
delivering to the warfighter,” Colonel Lovell said. “If you make a
commitment to the warfighter that you are going to deliver on a
certain day and at a certain budget, then you meet that commitment.”
In his new post as 751 ELSG commander, Colonel Lovell is responsible
for all aspects of the development, acquisition and sustainment of
the $15 billion E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System.

Hanscom's 2008 Combined Federal Campaign, with the theme of
"Caring for Communities," is underway, running through Nov. 14.
The CFC program gives federal employees and servicemembers the
opportunity to contribute to local, national and international
charities. The campaign is the only period of time where
solicitation of personnel in the federal workplace on behalf of
charities is authorized. The CFC program takes donations on a
strictly voluntary basis and all are welcome to contribute.
"Our goal this year is to raise at least $237,000 and, as
always, to make 100 percent contact with every military member
and government civilian assigned to Hanscom," said Capt.
Kate Stowe, Hanscom CFC representative.

Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley |
WASHINGTON --
Michael B. Donley will be the next secretary of the Air Force
based on an Oct. 2 Senate confirmation vote here.
Secretary Donley had been designated by the president to begin
serving as acting secretary on June 21, 2008.
The former director of administration and management for the
Defense Department, he was nominated for the secretary of the
Air Force position and provided testimony to the Senate Armed
Services Committee July 22. Senate confirmation now clears the
way for Secretary Donley's formal appointment by the president.
"Our way ahead includes a recommitment to upholding the high
standards that have always been the Air Force's hallmark and for
our core values -- integrity first, service before self and
excellence in all we do -- to underpin every Airmen at all
times," Secretary Donley said.

Air Force’s new site planning tool
boosts capabilities for warfighters
By Jason Bishop
754th Electronic Systems Group
MAXWELL AIR
FORCE BASE-GUNTER ANNEX, Ala. -- The 554th Electronic Systems
Group’s Force Projection and Readiness Division activated the
Web-based Base Support and Expeditionary Planning Tool, or BaS&E,
on the Air Force Portal computer network Sept. 10. The
activation was a major milestone in a capability development
that started as a Joint Expeditionary Force Experiment
initiative.
BaS&E provides Joint Command and Air Force warfighters with
global visibility of resources at potential forward operating
locations for planning and accomplishing real-time combat
operations anywhere in the world. BaS&E consists of an
unclassified application and database used for data collection
of location capabilities. It also has a classified application
and database used for the analysis of capabilities to support
specific operational plans.
BaS&E capabilities present a more complete site bed down picture
tailored to the specific needs of the operator in four core
areas: site selection, site assessment, mission planning and
mission support.
