Col. Terrence A. “Terry” Feehan, commander of the Nuclear Weapons Center at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., will be reassigned to the position of Electronic Systems Center vice commander, the Air Force announced last week.

The colonel will assume his new position at ESC by the end of April. The ESC vice commander position was most recently filled by Maj. Gen. Art Rooney, who retired with 33 years of service in late October 2007.

In his current position, the colonel is in charge of two wings: the 498th Armament Systems Wing and the 377th Air Base Wing. The 498th ARSW is responsible for the entire scope of the nuclear weapons support functions and is comprised of units at Kirtland AFB, Nellis AFB, Nev. and Tinker AFB, Okla. The 377th ABW provides base operating support for Kirtland AFB and hosts over 100 associate units.

Colonel Feehan has previously commanded at the squadron and group levels and most recently as the 377th ABW Commander. Colonel Feehan has also served as an engineer, acquisition program director, inspector general, and at the major command and headquarters Air Force levels.

The Electronic Systems Center wrapped up its four-day Acquisition Boot Camp program today, having offered a wide array of introductory training for 16 individuals new to the acquisition workforce.

The program, which is designed to accelerate the acquisition learning process, provides a basic understanding of a broad spectrum of acquisition topics, said Amanda Currier, Acquisition Boot Camp facilitator and ESC University Consultant.

“The objective of this training is to provide students with the basic information needed to function in acquisition-related positions,” she said. “This course uses the ‘fire hose’ method to get a lot of information out in a short period of time. It covers a wide spectrum of topics to allow students exposure to all facets of acquisition and see where their part fits in. It also enables them to have the support tools and POCs necessary to do their jobs.”

The course was broken down into a variety of topic areas, and featured numerous speakers from Hanscom’s workforce. One of the highlights of the course, Ms. Currier said, included the motivational speaker section. During this particular course, Col.
Anita Latin, 653rd Electronic Systems Group commander,
was the guest speaker.

Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MLK Event

Members of the Hanscom community gathered at the Base Chapel Jan. 15 for a remembrance service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for his vision and accomplishments during the Civil Rights Movement. The service, titled "Together We Can Live the Dream," included musical and spoken tributes to the civil rights leader who urged non-violence while seeking racial equality for all Americans.

The service's keynote speech was a re-enactment of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech, performed by Tim Martin, 66th Security Forces Squadron. The speech, arguably the most famous of the Civil Rights Movement, was originally given in 1963 during the March on Washington -- a non-violent protest for civil rights -- at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

Mr. Martin, who has given the speech at military installations, schools and churches throughout New England, has studied extensively the footage of the original speech. He adopts Dr. King's vocal inflections, movements and even dress from that day to make the speech authentic for the audience and express Dr. King's passion for his message. "I want to give off that same feeling that he felt, to relay the message that I believe he was trying to relay at that particular moment in time," he said. (More)

“With advances in sensors, information sharing and network-centric systems, our operators are suffering the embarrassment of riches—they are, quite literally, struggling with information delivered at a velocity and volume far exceeding human ability to process and absorb. We must develop and field systems that are not just network-centric, but knowledge-centric. These systems process, filter and integrate data, presenting information in a format that enables quick, logical decisions. To this end, we will develop self-forming, self-healing networks that harness the power of machine-to-machine interfaces, freeing up human resources for activities where intellect and warrior spirit are indispensable ..."
